Our Mission
Autoimmune diseases as a group pose an increasing threat to our health system. However, our understanding about the emergence of autoimmune diseases is relatively scarce and current treatment options are limited to unspecific systemic immune suppression, which results in severe side effects including an increased vulnerability to infections. The CRC 1526 aims to elucidate the initial events leading to the emergence of autoimmune diseases and develop novel therapeutic and diagnostic strategies, for the early detection and site-specific treatment of autoimmune diseases. Therefore, we will exploit the properties of pemphigoid diseases as a group of prototypical autoimmune disease and assess, if gained insights are transferable to other autoimmune diseases.
Early career support
Promotion of young scientist is the cornerstone of every successful research project and one of the central key objectives of the CRC 1526. Therefore, the development of all PhD and MD candidates will be supported by programs of one of the following research training groups (RTG):
- RTG 2633 "Defining and Targeting Autoimmune Pre-Disease" (UzL)
- RTG 2501 "Translational Evolutionary Research" (CAU Kiel)
- Life@FAU (FAU Erlangen-Nürnberg)
- Graduate School of Life Science (JMU Würzburg)
- International Max Planck Research School (MPI for Heart and Lung Research).
By this means we ensure an exellent scientific training of our PhD candidates and also allow the formation of a research networt at the beginning of their career.
